Tito meets with 12 year old blood recipients
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009Five-time mixed martial arts champ Tito Ortiz matched up with United Blood Services last month to host the Ultimate Blood Drive IV, bringing in 285 donors at Metrocenter in Phoenix. Because blood can be separated into components to benefit several patients, those donations have gone to save more than 500 lives in Arizona hospitals. Before the event, Ortiz stopped off at a local gym to show a few moves to MMA fans Joshua and Jordan, 12-year-old twin brothers who endure a different kind of fight every day – Sickle Cell Disease. While most kids their age are playing sports, Joshua and Jordan spend much of their free time at Phoenix Children’s Hospital receiving lifesaving blood transfusions. So far in their young lives, more than 125 blood donors have become their heroes.
Tito Ortiz’s Ultimate Blood Drive IV - What a Success!
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009The fourth annual Ultimate Blood Drive was a success! Out of the 295 potential donors that signed in, United Blood Services did 216 procedures and collected 257 blood products. This will help to save over 640 patient’s lives! Children like Kelly, Josh and Jordan, surgery patients like Bob and many more depend on blood to survive. These are just a few of the patients that Tito met. Without successful blood drives this would not have happened.
Tito greeted more than 900 fans and signed over 500 photos at the Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, August 30, 2009.
